Little Laughing Bells
Little Laughing Bells is inspired by a love of floristry and family.
The name 'Little Laughing Bells' has been inspired by a famous quote from the book 'The Little Prince', written by Antoine De Saint-Exupery. While it is ultimately a children's book, it is quirky and deep in meaning. It's observations of life and human nature are profound and thought provoking.
A copy of The Little Prince was given to my Dad on the 15th November 1981 by a student of his, called Adam. It has been treasured ever since. I read his copy of The Little Prince as a child. I loved it, yet didn't quite understand what it all meant. It simply seemed a little 'weird' to me.
It wasn't until my mid-twenties that I read this book again. My Dad was in the midst of fighting cancer and I sought it out for a little comfort. It gave me so much more than that. In the final days of my Dad's life, I read it to him at his bedside. I used parts of this story to tell him all that I couldn't tell him in my own words. My Dad was actually, very much, a reflection of the messages in this book- quirky, thoughtful and wise.
Each day, for the 366 days after his passing, I sat and wrote down memories and stories of my Dad. A little laughing bell for each day of the year. The book I published at the end of it all went by this name. It was throughout this process that I realised just how much all the small things counted. My Dad did many great things in his life, but it was the small, thoughtful, seemingly insignificant things that really stayed with me and made me smile. These love filled gestures truly reflect one's character.
And so, this little project is born.
I love flowers. And I want to make people happy.
Here's to spreading smiles without the need for grand gestures- it's those small, thoughtful things that count.
Send someone a 'little laughing bell' just because.
"In one of those stars I shall be living. In one of them I shall be laughing. And so it will be as if all the stars were laughing, when you look at the sky at night.... You- only you- will have stars that can laugh"
"It will be as if in place of the stars, I had given you a great number of little bells that knew how to laugh.."
